Birding in Java, simple but very challenging!

Birding is a very challenging activity. The photographer must be patient to get a very good photo. Wild birds are very active. They always move from tree to tree, from branch to branch. Good camera and long-ranged zoom lenses are the requirements. Others things should be consider are appropriate clothes to blend with the color of nature. Wild birds are normally very susceptible to any movements around the environment. Just keep everything in a very quite movement. The best time to do birding activity is during the dry season. Wet season is also good, but you will need more weatherproof gears to protect the camera and lenses.

The small island of Java has more than 600 species of birds. Many kind of birds from raptors to a very small singing birds can be found, sometimes are easily found but sometimes are very difficult. Some protected bird species are bred at the national park conservation areas, such as Rhinoceros Hornbill in Merubetiri National park East Java, and Javan Hawk Eagle in Merapi National Park Jogjakarta.

There are several good birding places in Java. Most of the National park in Java have many variety of birds such Javan Caucal, Javan Sunbird, Green Peafowl, Javan Hawk Eagle, King Fisher, est. Golden Sunrise of Sikunir, Dieng Plato, Central Java

Sikunir sunrise is the most beautiful sunrise in Central Java. Many people said that the sunrise is as beautiful as Bromo Sunrise. Located on the high altitude about 2263m ASL, the travelers will have wide views of Central Java landscape. Central Java Volcanoes can be seen from this sunrise spot such as Sindoro volcano, Merapi volcano, Merbabu volcano, and Lawu volcano. This special spot is well-known as "Bukit Sikunir" or Sikunir Hill. This sunrise spot is located on the Sembungan Village, Dieng Plato, Central Java. It is about 4 to 5 hours car drive from Jogjakarta.

There is a lake called "Telaga Cebong" on the Sikunir areas, Sembungan Village. After enjoying the golden sunrise of Sikunir, fellow travelers can see this beautiful lake from another spot of the Sikunir Hill. Each month of the year is actually good time to visit. From July to October is dry season, there will be clear and blue sky, but sometimes there is quite thick haze. November to May is wet season. There are some special moments during this season. Sometime the morning cloud will cover the valley but the sky above is clear and blue, so the travelers will feel that they are on the nirvana located above the claud.
